Our History

The Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Community Development Corporation (FABCDC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established by the Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee.  For almost 125 years, the Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church has been an invaluable presence in the North Nashville community. When many growing congregations were faced with the dilemma of remaining in the inner-city or moving to the suburbs, Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church voted unanimously not only to remain in town, but to be an agent for transformational development in North Nashville. Incorporation papers were filled in March 1999 and FABCDC became an incorporated entity in the state of Tennessee effective April 16, 1999. 

The history of Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church and FABCDC is rooted in its long-standing commitment to fulfill “the Word becoming flesh and moving into the neighborhood” (John 1:14, The Message).  We embrace a holistic and logical approach to community development in which we invest in people through long-term relationships, while attending to the multiple needs they may have. 
 
Our Noteable Accomplishments:
  • Graduated approximately 70 men and women from the Career Express Program, which was featured in the July-August 2008 edition of Tennessee Road Builder, the official publication of the Tennessee Road Builders Association. About 70% of graduates from the first two classes have been placed in jobs.
  • Collaborated with the North Nashville CDC, MDHA, and the Mayor’s Office to build 942 Jefferson Street Complex. Currently manages this $2.4 million commercial and residential complex. 
  • Built a HUD 202 senior housing project, Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Village Manor, providing 25 affordable one-bedroom units for senior citizens.
  • Partnered with the Federal Home Loan Bank and Capital Bank and Trust of Nashville to build 6 single-family homes purchased by families in Davidson County (50% were enrolled in our home ownership classes).
  • Taught financial management and THDA approved homebuyer education classes to more than 250 households.
  • Expanded Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program to serve 126 households who claimed $59,834 in federal refunds in 2008.
