Transformed community through transformed lives

Workforce Development

Our workforce development program provides job training and career assistance, such as self and skills assessments, soft-skills training (resume preparation, mock interviews, practice searching for jobs and completing applications), life-skills training (goal-setting, financial management education), and specialized industry training. We connect participants to employment opportunities which pay a living wage and offer career advancement opportunities.

The goal of our workforce development is for individuals in our community to attain economic self-sufficiency. FABCDC is working with a wide range of industries and city and state departments to form long-term partnerships in Nashville’s high-growth industries.

Career Express

In partnership with the Tennessee Department of Transportation and LeMoyne-Owen College CDC in Memphis, FABCDC is the Nashville site that facilitates the Career Express™ Job Training Program.  This state-wide program is funded by the Federal Highway Administration and also operates in Knoxville and Chattanooga.  Participants include low-income men and women, ex-offenders, high school dropouts, minorities and immigrants.  Using a holistic approach, Career Express™ assists participants with the removal of many barriers that impact their employability. Strong collaborative partnerships produce men and women prepared for careers in the highway construction and related industries.

Since 2007 approximately 70 men and women have graduated and been empowered to accomplish career goals and meaningfully provide for their families.  About 70% of graduates from our first two classes were placed in jobs. This program was featured in the July-August edition of Tennessee Road Builder, the official publication for the Tennessee Road Builder Association.

FABCDC maintains a year-round waiting list due to on-going demand. Class sizes are limited. If you are interested in applying to the Career Express Program, please call our office at (615) 256-4329 to add your name to the waiting list.
